When I turned on the radio at Gelang Patah yesterday evening, I heard the saddest news of the week. Dr Wee (the former President) has passed away in the early morning of the May Day holiday. If Singapore were to have a President Idol, I would choose him to be my idol. In fact, when he was the President, I had made a point to attend all the National Day Parades. Having his presence was one of the main highlight of the event. I don't know him personally but with his presence during the events somehow or other made me proud having him as the head of state. He has the grandfather's (to me) presence, a homey presence. I have never met him personally, only on TV or at the Parade. He admitting that he is a 'student' of the 'University of Life' is truly inspiring. He is one of the few people that have made a special impact in my life.
